With a plethora of lunch destinations available to me in Merrillville Indiana, deciding where to go to satisfy my midday hunger can be a chore. This afternoon that task was made easier, as my number of choices was reduced by one. I was greeted at the door by a sign that read:
"NOTICE: No firearms are permitted on these premises, regardelss of an authorized permit. Violaters are subject to removal from the premises and prosecution for trespass."
Has Dick Portillo decided to become personally responsible for the safety and well being of myself and my family while I'm at his restaurant? I doubt it.
This raises the question: Does a store owner have the right to deny you your rights while you're on his premises? If the answer is "yes", then can he put up a sign stating "Freedom of belief is not permitted on these premises"? No he cannot. Not in this country. So why then can he infringe upon my inalienable right to keep and bear arms while on his premises?
Unless this policy changes, I will never set foot on any of his establishments again. It is unfortunate, as I really enjoyed this restaurant, but my principles come first. There are plenty of other restaurants that do not infringe upon my rights as an individual.
I intend to make as many local gun owners and rights activists aware of this as well. Please pass this information along and make it known - this is not acceptable. I also encourage you to leave feedback on the website: http://www.portillos.com/contact/
